Wet weather footy returns!
May 6, 2026
Dear Roys
What a fantastic round of wet-weather footy!
Being a winter sport and all, it was great to see our players running around in the mud, practising their slippery ball-handling skills and putting their stops to good use. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves!
Now our season is off and running, I have a few exciting matters to bring to your attention (including that this Sunday 10 May is Mother’s Day! Don’t forget!) –
Joe Johnson Round and our next 5th Quarter event!
Joe Johnson Round 2026 will be held in Round 5 on Sunday 17 May.
Complementing the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round, our club recognises Joe Johnson Round, celebrates Joe Johson, the first Indigenous player in the VFL/AFL who played for Fitzroy.
The Joe Johnson medal is awarded to a player from both teams who demonstrates the
principles of endurance, tenacity, courage, loyalty and pride.
As part of our celebrations, we’re throwing open the Eddie Gardens Community Room for our second 5th Quarter event of the year.
Our first 5th Quarter was fantastic:
- Sunday night dinner taken care of
- a weekend wind-down over drinks with friends and club mates
- footy on the big screen
- kids free-ranging it out on the BSO on a beautiful Sunday evening.
What more could you ask for?
We’ll see you down at BSO on the evening of Sunday 17 May from 6:00pm – 8:00pm!
2026 Toyota Good for Footy Fundraising Raffle
The Toyota Good for Footy Raffle is now open for 2026! Last year, our club raised $11K from this major fundraising effort – let’s see if we can beat that total this year!
Tickets are once again $5 and 100% of proceeds go to FJFC to support equipment purchases, coaching and player development.
We set each team the target of selling $350 worth of tickets, with the highest total overall awarded vouchers from the Clifton Hill Hotel to go towards a team function.
To spice things up a bit, we have another, amazing prize for the team with the highest fundraising total as at 5pm on Sunday 31 May. We promise it’s worth it, so get your skates on and purchase your tickets today!
*Every single ticket purchased helps the club*
Your TM will have shared your team’s unique link via your WhatsApp group to purchase tickets. Please buy a ticket and share the link with family and friends.
Thank you for supporting the Roys!

Round 7 (Sunday 31 May) is Big Freeze Community Round 2026, when AFL leagues and clubs join forces to raise funds for the fight against MND.

SALT Positive Parenting Course
The club has been provided FREE access to the acclaimed Sport and Life Training (SALT) Positive Parenting course.
The course is designed to help our parents support their child’s development through sport, focusing on character, values, and positive encouragement. It’s self-paced and can be completed in around 30 minutes.
I encourage everyone to make this investment in their child’s junior sport journey. I’ve done the course for each of the last three years and get something out of it every time!
To access the course please click here and use our unique club code YJFLFIT26 to access the course.
As an added incentive in 2026, the club with the highest level of engagement will have the opportunity to nominate up to 10 children to participate in a Guard of Honour prior to the Collingwood v Port Adelaide AFL match at the MCG on Saturday, 20 June 2026.
More details on the course are available here: Salt Positive Sports Parenting.
Inaugural Women of Fitzroy Luncheon

Aside from fabulous company, on offer is a delicious sit down lunch, live entertainment, raffles and prizes and drinks at bar prices. It’s going to be a brilliant event, and we can’t wait to see you there, all decked out and in the mood for a fun time.
