New YJFL Registration Requirements for ALL Parent Volunteers
March 12, 2026
Parents, we know you love the opportunity to wave the flags at your child’s game, to strut your stuff on-field when escorting the umpires and to boss around the lax dog owners on the sidelines when their hounds decide to join the game.
Starting this season, the YJFL requires all game day volunteers to be registered.
If you’re not registered, you can’t volunteer – and if we don’t have enough volunteers our teams can’t play – simple. We would therefore greatly appreciate every parent/guardian from every team completing these requirements as soon as possible, so we can kick off season 2026 smoothly in five weeks.
We thank you in advance!
The new requirements are:
All game day volunteers (coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, runners, TMs, umpire escorts, scorers, timekeepers, flag wavers and ground managers) must be registered in PlayHQ as a volunteer. Your registration in PlayHQ requires you to have a WWC check.
Steps required:
- Follow this link to obtain your WWC check (it’s free): Working with Children Check
- Once you have your WWC check, follow this link to register yourself in Play HQ: Register to Fitzroy JFC (Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL)) | PlayHQ
We can track who has registered in PlayHQ and would really appreciate not having to chase you – don’t miss your chance to contribute to your child’s team’s quest for fun and glory this year!
**Please note – If you are already registered as a Coach, TM or Trainer you do NOT need to register separately, for a second time, as a volunteer.
All Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Runners are required to complete online coaching accreditation.
Given the occasional need for parents to informally step into these roles on game day, we would appreciate anyone who believes they may be called upon during the season to coach or act as runner to complete the accreditation.
Steps required:
- Create an AFL ID account by clicking on this link and navigating to the AFL Learn section: https://play.afl/coach
- Complete the Coaching Profile, including selecting and aligning with the Club/team in the correct league (Yarra JFL), age group and coaching position
- Complete the 2026 Welcome Package (including the Coaches Code of Conduct)
- Complete the online Foundation Course relevant to the playing age group of your team (Junior or Youth).
All Trainers must hold current first aid (including CPR) qualification and be registered in PlayHQ as medical officer.
Steps required:
- Contact our Head Trainer Anna Murphy to enrol in the FREE first aid training provided by the YJFL
- Follow this link to register yourself as a medical officer in PlayHQ: Register to Fitzroy JFC (Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL)) | PlayHQ
Thanks again for supporting your child’s team to have a fantastic 2026 season!
