ANZAC DAY: LEST WE FORGET

Anzac Day Commemoration held pre match at all our Games.

We meet here today, not to glorify war or praise victors, but to remember those who have served our country during times of conflict and crisis, and to reflect upon their selfless sacrifice.

A bumper turn out with 140 meals served including our new Childrens menu proving a hit.

We were privileged to have Allan Godfrey, a Digger at 94 years of age share his wisdom and insight with us.

Allan grew up in Fitzroy and followed the Gorilla’s (as they were known before the Lions). He recounted his times during the war – his mates – his losses his – his dark days – his enlightened days and his enduring love for Fitzroy Football Club.

He is an influential man having the ear of our Governor General – Sir Peter “Cornflakes” Cosgrove and his wife.

Adorning a Fitzroy Junior scarf Allan lead a poignant and resounding rendition of the Fitzroy Theme Song.

Thank you to his Great-Grand-Daughter Rihannan and Matt for bringing him along.
