Preliminary Final - Surrey Park Black vs Fitzroy - 24 August 2025

At Lynden Park, with only 16 players available. Celina joined Tessa, Zoe, Alex and Evie G on the injured list, meaning no bench for the entire match. A difficult equation.

While we were jumped in the first quarter, the remainder of the match was closely fought. Dahlia’s marking was outstanding, Kora was in everything up forward, and Edie played the game of her life.

Next stop: Youth Girls in 2026.

Elimination Final - Fitzroy vs Banyule - 17 August 2025

At Ford Park North for the Elimination Final, where there are no second chances. Injury and illness had depleted our numbers, so we were joined by Katherine and Claudette from other teams.
Although the girls had struggled against Banyule during the season it was a different story this time. They threw themselves into the contest – literally at times – and came away with a handsome victory.

Everyone played well: finals footy at its best.

Round 14 - Fitzroy vs Camberwell - 10 August 2025

At Ford Park South. You need to do everything right against this Camberwell team, and in the first quarter the girls did just that. The Sharks appeared frustrated, maybe for the first time this season. But their ability to find the big sticks is their not-so-secret weapon.

The final scoreline was not a true reflection of the even contest.

At Whitehorse (Springfield Park). Party-time in the sun, where everyone seemed to have a lovely time. Conversion in front of goal remains a worry though.

Round 12 - Fitzroy vs Beverley Hills - 27 July 2025

At BSO, against a Beverley Hills team that had found form late in the season. While our effort could not be faulted, conversion in front of goal left a lot to be desired. The final scoreline said it all.

Round 11 - Fitzroy vs Surrey Park Black - 20 July 2025

At BSO, for another bout against the ‘old enemy’. It was a typically tight tussle until Lily Parker got off the leash in the second. The girls responded in the third and were closing the margin, but then the rain came. Our wet weather skills need some work, and thus we lost a close one. Indeed, the last five outings against Surrey/Balwyn have all been decided by less than a goal. Bound to run into them come finals time.

At BSO. It appeared that the game was lost in the dying moments, when Banyule scored a couple of late goals. But really, it was lost in the 2nd quarter when we lost focus. Special mentions: Xanthe’s tackling, Dahlia’s tackling; and Rosie’s defence.

At Beverley Hills (Zerbes). A solid team performance.

Round 8 - Camberwell vs Fitzroy - 15 June 2025

At Camberwell (Lynden Park), with several prominent players unavailable. Despite the lop-sided scoreline it was a much better performance than earlier in the season. Bombing the ball into our forward line ruined any scoring chances. Special mentions: a huge Xanthe mark; Sophie’s tackling; and Celina’s herculean efforts all over the ground.

Round 7 - Whitehorse vs Fitzroy - 1 June 2025

At Whitehorse (Springfield Park). Although the girls dominated all day, the goal-kicking left a lot to be desired. Ariya kicked her first goal for the team.

Round 6 - Fitzroy vs Surrey Park Black - 25 May 2025

At BSO, for the (sort of) Grand Final rematch, against Surrey’s #1 team. We started brightly, including a delightful end-to-end goal. But Surrey Park settled and a torrid arm-wrestle ensued. Great to see Zara back from long-term injury.

We hung on to win a nail-biter.

Round 5 - Banyule vs Fitzroy - 18 May 2025

At Banyule (Beverley Road). A tough, hard game against a new opponent. Poor kicking for goal let us down and opened the door for Banyule to ‘steal’ the points. Thankfully, Evie Scott got her eye in during the last quarter to ensure victory. Zoe’s tackling was a stand out, while Rosie and Eva were resolute in defence.

Round 4 - Surrey Park White vs Fitzroy - 11 May 2025

At Surrey Park, against Surrey’s #2 team. Ariya and Eva played their first games for us, and Eva marked the occasion with a goal. Millie’s marking was a stand out, and Kora ran riot on the scoreboard.

Round 3 - Fitzroy vs Bulleen-Templestowe - 4 May 2025

At BSO again, where the girls put last week’s disappointment behind them. Although it was probably a grading mismatch, you need to perform well no matter who you’re playing. The mids went to work and the forwards dined out, with Sophie and Kora showing the way.

In Zara’s absence Abby’s ‘grunt work’ was noteworthy. There’ll be many tough games ahead and the more hard workers, the better.

Meanwhile, the defenders had barely touched the ball by half time. Zero inside 50s in fact. The coaches made plenty of changes, resulting in Tessa and Abigail joining the goal kicking party. It was that sort of day.

Round 2 - Fitzroy vs Camberwell - 27 April 2025

At BSO, on ANZAC Day round, and Kora’s first game with the team. Camberwell is a very different proposition this year.

Few highlights, but plenty of lessons.

Round 1 - Fitzroy vs Beverley Hills - 6 April 2025

For the season opener at BSO we were joined by some handy recruits: Zoe and Abby (both from Darebin) and Xanthe (first game). They all slotted in beautifully, indicating that the pre- season was thorough. The coaching bench had a new look too: Claudia now wearing the ‘big hat’ with Nessa joining as assistant coach.

School holidays meant only 12 players were available, which soon dropped to 11 when Zara was injured. But as we know, our girls love the open space of BSO: they like to run, give options and use the ball efficiently. With Tia dominating the ruck the menacing forwards had a field day in the first quarter. Celina, Sophie, Evie and Xanthe put six goals on the board in a dazzling display.

After the break the game settled into a rhythm, with Beverley Hills finding the goals at times but never really threatening. Rosie was rock solid in defence, and Dahlia seemed to have brought her own footy. In the third quarter it was Zoe’s turn to hit the scoreboard – big time.

A bright start to the season.
